About Josh Habansky, PMHNP

Josh is a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner with a passion for working with patients to optimize their mental health and well-being. He is committed to treating a variety of disorders with a focus on major depressive disorders and depressive symptoms.

Even as a young child, Josh was fascinated by the intricate workings of the brain and the complexities of human behavior. The interest drew him to study psychology and sociology in his undergraduate education and ultimately to realize a passion for working with patients in mental health. He began his career as a registered nurse caring for patients with various psychiatric diagnoses. This illuminated his path and inspired him to pursue additional education and training to become a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.

In patient care, he uses a collaborative and individualized approach to facilitate the achievement of treatment goals that are as unique as the individuals themselves. For Josh, each person seeking mental health care comes with his or her own set of values, experiences, goals, strengths, and weaknesses. He believes in integrating these differences into treatment. He views each patient as a complex being with specific mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual needs and considers all these facets of health when putting together a treatment plan.

For Josh, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) offers a novel, non-invasive treatment for depression and is an extremely effective alternative for patients that are suffering and haven’t found relief from a psychopharmacological intervention. While psychopharmacology has come a long way in the past several decades and can be lifesaving for many, some do not find recovery through medications alone, despite their best efforts and the efforts of their psychiatric providers. TMS may help these patients.

Josh joins TMS Health Solutions in the spring of 2020.

education & experience

Josh graduated magna cum laude from the University of Connecticut with his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. While pursuing his degree, he was active in community service and participated in several volunteer activities at the university, in community schools, and nursing homes.

He received his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Southern Connecticut State University, where he graduated magna cum laude. The Nursing Department honored him with the Immaculata Alba Excellence in Nursing Award. He was also inducted into the Mu Beta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.

After graduation from nursing school and licensure as a registered nurse (RN), he worked at Community Health Center, Inc., in Stamford, CT, a place that provided primary care, mental health, dental, and women’s health services to underserved and under-insured patients in Stamford, CT. He enjoyed working as part of an interdisciplinary team to support patients, treating the patient both medically and behaviorally. Many of the patients suffered multiple chronic conditions, and he coordinated care for patients and helped them utilize resources to maximize patient outcomes. It was a dynamic position that gave Josh diverse nursing experiences. His work with patients who suffered from severe mental illnesses like schizophrenia solidified his decision to pursue a career as a psychiatric nurse practitioner.

He attended Regis College for his Masters in Nursing. During graduate school, he enjoyed several rich clinical experiences where he was able to care for patients in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. In these rotations, he gained experience assessing patients and diagnosing mental health conditions as well as implementing treatment plans, which included both psychopharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions.

Simultaneously, he continued to practice nursing at Yale Psychiatric Hospital’s inpatient adolescent unit in New Haven, Connecticut. During his time working there, he treated patients on various units, across the lifespan and with a range of mental health conditions.
