The new clinic joins existing TMS Health Solutions facilities in Sacramento, two in San Francisco, Oakland, Roseville, Burlingame, El Dorado Hills, and Walnut Creek.
Dr. Richard Bermudes, Chief Medical Officer of TMS Health Solutions, announced today the practice’s expansion of an all-new clinic at 1503 S. Coast Dr. Suite #111, Costa Mesa, CA, 92626. Patient care will be led by Dr. George Tun, a psychiatrist with a strong academic foundation and experience working with patients from many different socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
Dr. Tun earned his bachelor’s degree in Nutritional Sciences from UC Berkeley and his M.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He then trained in psychiatry at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, treating the most vulnerable populations in emergency rooms settings as well as inpatient and outpatient clinics. He is particularly interested in the interface between psychology and neurology, and that is one of the connections that drew him to the potential uses of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and TMS Health Solutions. He is attracted to new and emerging technology and treatments for treating his patients and has found this innovative treatment to show promising results for patients.
Dr. Karl Lanocha, Director of TMS Education at TMS Health Solutions, and another trailblazer in TMS practice, stated, “We are honored to serve Orange County with a unique, patient-centric experience and the most advanced therapies available for those suffering with mental health struggles and advanced depression.”
TMS Health Solutions was founded in 2007 by Dr. Richard Bermudes, who sought to develop a group practice that provided innovative, patient-centric care with the focus of an academic research institution, continually incorporating new and groundbreaking treatment methods while educating the community.
TMS Health Solutions has the most experience providing TMS therapy of any outpatient psychiatric medical practice in Northern California. Dr. Bermudes, founder and Chief Medical Officer, is a nationally recognized leader in TMS and was elected as president of the Clinical TMS Society in 2015, serving for two years. He currently serves on the Board of Directors. Dr. Lanocha, who directs education efforts, is one of the most published clinicians in the field of TMS and one of the nation’s first physicians to use TMS to treat depression. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Clinical TMS Society and is the Course Chair for the “Hands-On TMS Symposium”, a four-day, in-depth training event held annually in downtown San Francisco.
The treatment of depression isn’t a “one-size fits all” and can be managed through various options, including psychotherapy, medication, and TMS. Each patient is unique, and his or her depression can be addressed through one or a combination of these treatments.
About Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Therapy:
Cleared by the FDA in 2008, TMS is a drug-free, non-invasive therapy for patients who suffer from treatment-resistant depression. It is administered in a physician’s office in an outpatient setting. By using a MRI-strength magnetic field to stimulate the prefrontal cortex of the brain, the core symptoms of major depression can be relieved. Unlike antidepressants or Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT), patients undergoing TMS therapy experience minimal side effects.
About TMS Health Solutions:
Headquartered in San Francisco, California, TMS Health Solutions clinics specialize in the delivery of TMS therapy for patients suffering from treatment-resistant depression. Additionally, the clinics provide traditional treatment for mood disorders. TMS Health Solutions is led by Dr. Richard Bermudes and Dr. Karl Lanocha, two of the nation’s leading experts on using TMS therapy as an innovative treatment for depression.
