Abel Bumgarner, MD
Dr. Bumgarner is a Board-Certified, Adult Psychiatrist with a passion for treating patients suffering from mood disorders. He finds helping patients to be extremely rewarding as he seeks to provide relief from their symptoms.
During his psychiatry rotation in medical school, he noted that psychiatric treatment allowed a physician to look holistically at a patient and figure out how to best treat them, vs. pinpointing one specific ailment. He was drawn to this opportunity to treat the whole person and found that incredibly rewarding. He believes psychiatry can elevate the human condition directly by aiding in relief from emotional pain, anxiety, sadness, and suffering.
In treating patients, he aims to build a working alliance towards treatment goals, offering the most appropriate and effective treatments. He is highly seasoned in helping patients manage their medication regimen and finding the best combination to provide relief.
His focus on depression and mood disorders began when he noticed the toll depression has taken on the population as a whole. While he has successfully treated many patients with medication, be believes that Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive therapy that provides more robust treatment options. With this growing technological advancement that allows treatments to be more specific to the brain regions involved in psychiatric disorders, he sees that TMS will likely be used as a tailored treatment beyond depression.
He joins TMS Health Solutions in December 2017.
Noah DeGaetano, MD
Dr. Noah DeGaetano is a Board Certified psychiatrist with a strong background in both teaching and using technology to improve the patient experience. He has received extensive training in psychopharmacology and both cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic approaches to therapy.
Dr. DeGaetano applies an integrative medicine approach and works with modalities that address the physical body as well as the mind and brain. In addition to medications, his approach may include mindfulness and lifestyle changes to help patients support health and reduce symptoms.
Dr. DeGaetano has a passion for psychiatric work and an intuitive sense of how to ask questions and listen to patients. He also found a path where in addition to helping patients with current illness, he could gain an understanding of root causes and treat that as well.
He recognizes that magnetic stimulation, including TMS, will continue to grow and be a big part of brain health in the future as this cuts across psychology and neurology. He joined TMS Health Solutions in May of 2017.
Michael Lara, MD
Dr. Lara is a Board-Certified Adult Psychiatrist with more than fifteen years’ experience. His diverse background includes practicing in both inpatient and outpatient settings with a focus on psychopharmacology and adult mood disorders.
While his childhood dream was always to be a doctor, his interests in college led him to an academic career pursuit. He headed to graduate school focused on English and American Literature, and when writing his dissertation to pursue a PhD, he became interested in the interface between medicine and literature. He was intrigued with how medicine was represented in literature, and shortly after began to pursue his medical studies.
He tends to see himself as a coach in helping his patients overcome their struggles. He guides his patients through a variety of treatment approaches to address their unique needs including pharmacotherapy. He is a highly collaborative physician, and his ideal patient is participatory and not afraid to challenge conventional wisdom of standard treatment approaches, considering themselves a partner in treatment and recovery.
Dr. Lara believes Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) could transform the field of psychiatry as one of several emerging therapy approaches with an evidence-based technology to treat psychiatric illness. He sees it as one of the more promising treatment strategies that continues to emerge, grow and realize great patient outcomes.
He joined TMS Health Solutions in the Fall of 2018.
