Dr. Wilson is a Psychiatrist with a passion for helping patients with advanced depression. She first felt the calling towards healthcare having grown up with a mother who was a VA nurse for 35 years, which is where she became aware of the growing need for more healthcare practitioners. She knew at a young age that she wanted to be a doctor and help people.
She entered medical school unsure of what path within medicine she planned to pursue, and in her third year, she completed her rotation in psychiatry and was hooked. Dr. Wilson was drawn into psychiatry by the stories and the ability to make connections and notice patterns when working with patients. She felt it was one of the few specialties that offered the opportunity to really get to know someone. She was able delve into how their life and experiences led them to be the way they are.
Dr. Wilson recognizes that many people live with mental illness every day, and the diagnosis needs to be put in context with information given about treatment options and how to access support when needed. She prides herself on frank communication and offering clear, truthful information about prognosis, options and hope. She finds a collaborative rapport with patients works best, where the patient also is engaged in treatment. She is invigorated by seeing patients come out of depression, find ways to get back out into the world, perhaps discover new hobbies, and become stronger, better, happier people.
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) first interested her as a highly effective treatment plan that blended her training in diagnosis and formulation to create a treatment plan with hands-on work, one that could provide patients relief from suffering. She was attracted to this ability of activating changes in brain circuitry on an outpatient basis, without anesthesia, and one that was far less invasive than other treatments for patients who had not responded to medications.
She joins TMS Health Solutions in December of 2017.
Dr. Wilson is an avid reader and can absorb herself in non-fiction, preferring thrillers, mysteries, and science fiction/fantasy. She also enjoys Pilates and appreciates both the restorative power and strength-building nature of it. She relishes all live performances, from plays to concerts to dance.
Dr. Wilson earned her Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics with a minor in Biology at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, IA. She graduated from medical school at Saint Louis University School of Medicine, a Jesuit school that emphasized service.
Following medical school, she completed her psychiatric residency at the University of California- Fresno, in Fresno, CA. The program was focused on an under-served, diverse community with a strong focus in psychotherapy and community psychiatry. She became experienced in inpatient psychiatry, emergency psychiatry, and outpatient medication management. She received focused training in geriatric psychiatry and primary care mental health integration. She also gained significant practice in transitional age and first-onset psychosis populations as well as severe persistent mental illness and treatment of psychosis. All her background working in low resource areas helped her hone her focus to providing timely, effective treatments like neuromodulation.
Her training has focused on psychopharmacology treatment combined with interventional psychotherapy for the treatment of mood disorders. She has a strong interest in perinatal mental health as well. She understands the importance of warmth, education, and collaboration in helping people achieve their best health. She specializes in Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation.
