Dr. Bermudes is Board Certified in Adult Psychiatry and Family Medicine, with 20 years’ experience caring for patients. He founded TMS Health Solutions in 2007, serves as the practice’s Medical Director, and is an expert on TMS practice organization and policy development. With his background as a professor and researcher, he leads the practice in its mission to educate the public and clinicians on both mental health issues and TMS, to continually seek the most advanced treatments, and to actively contribute to the medical community’s knowledge of mental health conditions and therapy efficacy.
Dr. Bermudes is a caring, collaborative practitioner with a structured, goal-oriented approach to treating mental health conditions.
When he’s not at the office, Dr. Bermudes treasures spending time with his wife and four children. He recharges by trail running and mountain biking, and is an ardent devotee of pourover coffee.
Founding Board Member and Former President
Originally from Sonoma County, Dr. Bermudes earned his medical degree from the University of California, San Diego in 1997. He served as Chief Resident for the Family Medicine/Psychiatry Combined Program at the University of Cincinnati, then completed a fellowship in cognitive therapy and cognitive therapy supervision at the Beck Institute for Cognitive Therapy and Research in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Bermudes went on to hold professorships and clinical appointments at the University of Cincinnati and University of California, Davis, where he treated patients and served as medical director, taught and supervised residents, and lectured on topics from homelessness and mental health to co-occurring mental and physical illnesses. He has also served as attending physician at hospitals in the Sacramento area.
In 2007, Dr. Bermudes founded a group practice, now known as TMS Health Solutions. He completed specialized TMS training in February 2010, and was the first provider to offer the treatment for depression in the Sacramento, CA, area.
Dr. Bermudes is a founding member of the Clinical TMS Society. He chaired the group first annual meeting in 2013 and was elected as its president in 2015.
Through his career Dr. Bermudes has researched as well as edited and authored articles on cognitive therapy techniques, the metabolic syndrome, and medication-associated obesity. He is editor of and contributor to Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation: Clinical Applications for Psychiatric Practitioners, which will be published by the APA in 2017.
